Student Council Leaders Attend State Conference

unnamedUtopian Academy scholars Jabari Godfrey and Julie Nguyen attended the Georgia Association of Student Councils conference recently to learn more about leading the organization at their school. Godfrey will serve as president of Utopian’s student council in the fall. Nguyen will be vice-president. The conference gave the scholars insight on programs and serve projects that student council organizations across the state are involved in. The scholars said they will use some of the strategies that they learned. “It was a very fun experience,” Nguyen said of the overnight conference. “It was my first time attending a conference away from home. My teacher put me in student council. It’s hard work, but it makes me feel good about myself. I always wanted to be a leader. I want to help the community and make things better for students.” Godfrey, who is the current vice president of Utopian’s Student Council, said being in the organization has transformed him as a student. He is excited to lead the organization as president in 2016-17. “I used to have a fear of being in front of people and talking,” said. “With student council, I learned how to conquer that fear.”
